Go expectant, but with no expectations. That was part of the advice given today at the Words for the Journey meeting as we prepared for upcoming writers conferences. I remember a time I didn’t take that advice when I attended the Colorado Christian Writers Conference.
The first time I attended this conference, May 2005, I was sure I would find a publisher who wanted my book and I would walk away with a contract. I had a lot to learn. The possibility of this happening was extremely slim. But, God was good and despite my disappointment at not having a contract, I did come home with some good things. First, I learned how to prepare for a conference. Second, I learned that agents and editors are real people and not scary. And third, I learned to go to a conference expecting the Lord has something special for me at the conference. It will be something very special, but it might not be what I expect to happen.
